Safeguarding

At Hall Green Primary School, the health, safety and well-being of children is of paramount concern to us. Our aim is for children to enjoy their time as pupils in this school. We want to work in partnership with you to help your child achieve their full potential and make a positive contribution to the world they will be part of in the future.

The procedures which we follow, have been laid down by Sandwell’s Local Safeguarding Children’s Board. The school has adopted a Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy in line with this for the safety of all.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s (our) responsibility. All those who come in to contact with children and their families have a role to play in keeping children safe. To fulfil this responsibility effectively, our school ensures our approach is child centred and has the best interests of the child at the heart of all actions.

We create a culture of safe recruitment and have adopted robust recruitment procedures outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024 statutory guidance for schools.

All staff and Governing Body of this school are committed to establishing and maintaining an environment where children feel secure, are encouraged to talk, and are listened to. We will ensure that children know that there are adults in the school who they can approach if they are worried and that the principles of confidentiality are made clear to children and young people. Childrens wishes and feelings are always taken into account when determining what action is taken and included in any referrals. The school promotes a positive, supportive and secure ethos, giving pupils a sense of being valued and understanding that their voice will be heard.

This school also recognises its duty to work with other agencies in protecting children from harm and in responding to concerns about possible abuse, including the Police, Children's services, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, School Attendance Support Service, Inclusion Support Service and other agencies/services coming into school to support individual pupils/groups of pupils. This includes providing a coordinated offer of early help and contributing to any statutory assessments. School ensures that all staff understand the early help process and recognise the factors that make children more at risk of poor outcomes, including poverty, stigma and isolation which may be brought about by factors such as family members in prison or homelessness. We take timely action to support early intervention if we have concerns. We ensure that support is matched to children’s individual needs.

We encourage all children and young people to respect, value, and support each other.

Operation Encompass

We are fully compliant and promote Operation Encompass, which is a police and Education early intervention safeguarding partnership that supports children and young people exposed to Domestic Abuse. It aims to ensure schools are notified in a timely manner of any Domestic Abuse incident where child/ren are present. This includes undertaking the Key Adult online Training and ensuring all parents/carers are aware we are part of this initiative via newsletters, prospectus, school website and induction. We recognise that children who experience, see or hear domestic abuse in all its forms are victims and appropriate support will be offered.

If you are experiencing domestic abuse, please contact one of our DSLs who will provide a safe space to chat.

You can also get support and advice from Black Country Women's Aid on helpline@womensaid.org.uk

E-Safety

We ensure that appropriate, robust, Filtering and Monitoring is in place on school devices and networks which are regularly reviewed at least annually to assess their effectiveness. We also recognise the part mobile phones can play in compromising children's safety. We aim to meet the DFE filtering monitoring standards and the Cybersecurity standards for 10 schools and colleges.

PREVENT

Prevent is a national programme that aims to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. It works to ensure that people who are susceptible to radicalisation are offered appropriate interventions, and communities are protected against radicalising influences.

Radicalisation can happen when a person develops extreme views or beliefs that support terrorist groups or activities.

There are different types of terrorism, and Prevent deals with all of them.

The most common types of terrorism in the UK are Extreme Right-Wing terrorism and Islamist terrorism.

You can find our PREVENT Policy and Risk Assessment below.

Please contact a DSL if you have any concerns.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

At Hall Green Primary School our aim is to provide the highest quality pastoral care throughout the school. All staff work together to help pupils achieve their best, educationally, socially and emotionally.

All staff members are committed to supporting the emotional health and well-being of all our children and their families. We are happy to speak to pupils and parents/carers about any concerns they may have.

Our children are encouraged to make the most of their time at Hall Green Primary School, so every effort is made to remove barriers to successful learning and to equip young people with the confidence and skills to be enthusiastic learners and effective members of the community.

Our aims are:

· To offer an environment which will support the emotional health and well-being of all our pupils.

· To support and empower families who are experiencing challenges.

· To help our children develop empathy for social, spiritual, emotional and physical needs within the school.

· To uphold an atmosphere in which children feel secure, are encouraged in their learning, growth and social development and know that they are valued within a healthy and safe environment.

· To work with a range of stakeholders, parents, support staff, outreach agencies and other schools to ensure the best outcomes for every pupil.

We work with an external agency called Relexions. They are a Mental Health Support Team who school can refer children to.  For more information, see below. Contact your child's teacher if you feel your child needs support for their mental health.
